Silvia Casini is an associate professor in Ecology and Ecotoxicology, currently President of the Committee for teaching of the three-year course in Environmental and Natural Sciences and of the Master’s Degree in Ecotoxicology and Environmental Sustainability. She is the scientific director of the Biomarkers and Plastic Impact laboratory. For over 30 years, she has been studying the responses of organisms and natural populations to anthropogenic alterations linked to the release of pollutants into the environment, also with a view to sustainable management of ecosystems. Since 2012, she has implemented in particular the research line relating to Sustainable Agriculture and Protection of Pollinators. MAIN SCIENTIFIC INTEREST

1. Study of the health status of pollinating insects and the effectiveness of bee-friendly mitigation actions in agriculture.
2. Evaluation of the toxicological hazard of plant protection products on non-target organisms such as pollinating insects, soil invertebrates, birds.
3. Development of ecotoxicological investigation methodologies based on non-destructive biomarkers in protected terrestrial and marine species.
4. Study of the effects of old and new generation pollutants on “at risk” species (sea turtles, birds).
5. Development of integrated models for the study of the health status and ecosystem services of river ecosystems.
