The Department hosts three scientific museums: the Museum of Earth Sciences, the Collections of Physics Instruments, and the Astronomical Observatory. These museums play a didactic role within the university, serving as repositories of instruments and findings useful in laboratories and exercises. However, they primarily direct their contributions to an audience external to the University, particularly schools. The three museums are also part of the University Museums System of Siena (SIMUS), and through SIMUS, they offer coordinated and joint activities. In addition to its role in planning and coordination, SIMUS handles communication and promotion, as well as relations with schools. The SIMUS webpages provide comprehensive information about all the museums, including those three within the Department.
