Marine vertebrates and seabirds: potential sentinels of Good Environmental Status of marine environment, implication on European Marine Strategy Framework Directive
Presentation

The workshop will focus on the biology and ecotoxicology of large marine vertebrates and seabirds and in particular on their role as potential sentinels of "Good Environmental Status" for the European Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) with particular attention to the implementation of Descriptors 1 (Biological diversity is maintained. The quality and occurrence of habitats and the distribution and abundance of species are in line with prevailing physiographic, geographic and climatic conditions), 8 (Concentrations of contaminants are at level not giving rise to pollution effects), 9 (Contaminants in fish and other seafood for human consumption do not exceed levels established by Community legislation or other relevant standards) and 10 (Properties and quantities of marine litter do not cause harm to the coastal and marine environment). Their use in monitoring multiple alterations of different marine areas, from harbours to protected areas, from coastal to pelagic areas will be discussed. Keynote lectures will be given by invited speakers on the main topics of the workshop. The workshop will be open to call for papers platform, poster presentations and round tables.
