Associate Professor of Engineering Geology and scientific director of the Geomatics Laboratory of the department. Graduated cum laude from the University of Pisa in 1992 with a thesis in structural geology, he obtained his PhD in engineering geology in 1997 at the University of Siena, where he was a researcher from 2001 to 2022. He develops engineering geological research in Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Uruguay, Peru, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Senegal, Mozambique and Vietnam. He participates in, and is coordinator of, national and international research projects concerning land use and land cover changes, high-precision monitoring and modelling of subsidence and landslides, realization of landslide inventories, regionalized modelling of landslide susceptibility and hazard, realization of spatial databases of the engineering geological properties of soils and rock masses.
